The City of Oakwood is located just south of the downtown Dayton area. Oakwood’s largest growth began in 1930 after the Great Miami Flood of 1913. Oakwood boasted it is 275 feet higher than the intersection of 3rd street and Main in Downtown Dayton; and so began the building of Oakwood. Oakwood’s earliest residents consisted of Orville Wright and John Patterson. Both homes are still standing and just a small part of the history held in this community.

Kids always enjoy a visit to the Orchardly Park Splash Pad. Orchardly Park offers a state-of-the-art accessible playground designed by children for children, tennis courts, basketball court, green space and a shelter house. Other parks in Oakwood are Shafor Park and Fairridge Park. Shafor Park has 1.7 acres of playgrounds, a ball field, picnic areas and 6 tennis courts. Fairridge Park is located at city’s water tower and has swings, sandbox, benches, greenspace and places to picnic on 1.9 acres.
The Shops at Oakwood has 6 blocks of tree lined streets on Far Hill Avenue between the blocks of 2300 and 2800. This unique Oakwood shopper’s paradise consists of apparel shops, such as Chicos and Talbots. Home furnishings, fine dining, flower shops and jewelers also line these streets.
